Billing and usage
Manage your plan and payment through Stripe and track query and row usage across your organization.
Billing controls your organization's plan and unlocks paid features; usage tracking shows how much your org is consuming. Admins manage both under /app/settings/billing.
#Plans and checkout
Flax bills through Stripe. Any member can read the current billing status, but only admins can start checkout or open the billing portal.
- Status shows your current
plan, subscriptionstatus, and whether a trial is active. - Checkout starts a subscription for the Pro plan (per editor; viewers free) on a monthly or yearly cycle.
- Portal opens Stripe's customer portal to update payment details or cancel.
Paid features are gated by plan: if your plan (or an unexpired trial) doesn't include a feature, Flax returns a clear "upgrade required" response pointing you to billing.
Note
On self-hosted deployments where Stripe is not configured, billing endpoints report that billing is disabled and plan gates do not apply.
#Usage tracking
Usage aggregates activity across your organization so you can monitor consumption and anticipate plan needs. Tracked metrics include:
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Query count | Number of queries run. |
| Row count | Number of rows returned by those queries. |
AI-specific consumption is reported separately — see AI settings and usage.
