Editing

Spreadsheet editing parity — number and date formats, sort and filter, find and replace, insert and delete rows and columns, and per-user undo/redo.

Sheets provide the everyday editing features you expect from a spreadsheet, applied to the cells you select from the toolbar. This page is a tour of what is available.

#Number and date formats

Formatting changes how a value displays without altering the underlying number. From the toolbar you can apply:

• Currency ($), Percent (%), thousands separator (,), and Scientific notation.
• Increase and Decrease decimal places.

Dates format according to their value. Formats travel with the cell and are included when you export.

#Text formatting

Style cells with bold, italic, text colour, fill colour, and horizontal alignment (left, center, right). Add borders, or use Clear format to reset a selection. For rule-based styling, open Rules to define conditional formatting, and Validate to add data-validation rules.

#Sort and filter

• Sort by clicking a column header to cycle unsorted → ascending → descending.
• Filter the bound data through the binding panel, which constrains the exploration behind the tab.

#Find and replace

Press ⌘F to open the find bar. Enter a term to find, optionally a replacement, and cycle matches with Enter and Shift-Enter. Use Replace for the current match or Replace all.

#Insert and delete rows and columns

The Insert menu adds or removes structure:

• Insert row above / below, delete row.
• Insert column left / right, delete column.

You can also freeze columns up to a chosen column to keep them in view while scrolling.

#Undo and redo

Undo (⌘Z) and Redo (⌘⇧Z) step through your edits. Undo is scoped to your own changes: in a shared sheet, undoing rolls back what you did without touching a collaborator's edits. See Collaboration.
