Sharing and permissions
Share dashboards, charts, and sheets with teams and people, set org visibility, and star content you use often.
Flax controls who can open your content through two layers: the visibility of a resource and explicit grants to teams or people. This page is for anyone who wants to share a dashboard, chart, or sheet.
#Visibility
Every dashboard, chart, and sheet has a visibility setting that determines its baseline audience within your organization:
| Visibility | Who can see it |
|---|---|
private |
Only you, plus org admins. |
team |
Members of the resource's owning team. This is the default. |
org |
Everyone in the organization. |
Visibility never overrides data governance. Even an org-visible dashboard shows each viewer only the rows they are entitled to — see Data entitlements.
#Grants
A grant extends access to a resource beyond its visibility, targeting either a whole team or an individual user. Grants are managed at /api/grants and back the share dialog in the app.
- Resource types:
chart,sheet,dashboard. - Permission levels:
vieworedit. - Who can share: an org admin can share any resource; the lead of the resource's owning team can share that team's resources. A resource with no owning team can only be shared by an org admin.
When you share a resource with a specific user, they receive an in-app notification linking straight to it. See Comments and notifications.
#Starring content
Star a dashboard to add it to your personal favorites for quick access. Stars are per-user — starring never changes who else can see the dashboard, and starring content you are no longer permitted to view simply removes it.
