Drill-down

Click a mark for a menu of actions on that value — see the rows behind it, drill into a finer dimension, or open it as a sheet.

A single value in a result or chart is an aggregate of many rows. Drill-down lets you click that value to see the rows behind it, or to break it down by a finer dimension — moving from "what" to "why" without rebuilding the query.

#Clicking a mark

When you click a mark — a bar, a line point, a pie slice, or a table cell — Flax reads what you clicked: the series and the category value that identify that point. It maps those back to the model's fields and builds filters for exactly that slice, keeping the filters already on the query.

A menu opens at your cursor, headed by the value you clicked, offering everything you can do with it: filter the dashboard to it, drill to detail, open it as a sheet, or ask the AI about it. Right-clicking or tapping opens the same menu — no gesture acts on its own, and the arrow keys reach the marks without a mouse (see Interactivity). Choosing Drill to detail opens a Drill modal showing:

• Applied-filter chips describing the slice you drilled into.
• The underlying rows for that slice, fetched ungrouped (up to a 1,000-row cap), which you can export to CSV or open in a sheet to keep working with (see View in sheet).

Time-bucketed clicks filter on the whole bucket — for example, clicking a monthly bar filters to that month at the dimension's grain.

#Drilling into a finer dimension

If the clicked dimension declares a child in the model (for example country → city, or an implicit month → day for time), the modal offers a Drill into button naming that child. Choosing it rewrites the query in place: it swaps the clicked dimension for its child, adds the clicked value as a filter, and re-runs.

A Drilled breadcrumb of chips shows where you are, and a Clear button returns to the original query.

#On dashboards

Drill-down works from dashboard tiles too, and each tile drills independently with its own breadcrumb, so a summarized dashboard becomes a starting point for investigation. See Interactivity for dashboard drilling and cross-filtering.
